Baumfelder op. 84. - Melody

Friedrich Wilhelm August Baumfelder was born on May 28, 1836 in Dresden, and died in the same city on September 8, 1916. It was a German Romantic composer, conductor and pianist, quite famous in his day.

He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory. After graduating, he taught music in Dresden. In 1875 he was appointed director of the Music Academy of Robert Schumann, a position he held for several decades.

During that period, he composed some of his works, obtaining an acknowledgment that helped him to perform abroad: England, France, United States.

Although he composed more than 400 works, including symphonies, overtures, piano concertos, choral works and operas, Baumfelder has been a little forgotten, and only a few of his works are still played. Best known today are the Peasant Dance (op. 208) and Melody in F major, both quite popular for piano students.

Here we offer you the latter.
